Vond het wel een aardig stukje , op de website van Bonomo is al wel een tijdje oud dus wie weet ken je het.

Disclaimer #2: I'm not a hateful person. I can be cynical, but there are very few people I actually wish bad things upon. Men Nguyen just happens to be one of those people. The rest are mostly terrorists and rapists.

So it all started on day 2. Matt Graham was at my table in the Circuit Event. He raised AA on the button, Men moved all-in from the blinds, and Matt insta-called and flipped up his hand. He held and doubled up through Men. After the hand Matt came up to me and said, "Oh my God, that was the perfect slow roll opportunity! I can't believe I didn't think to slow-roll him!"

We had sushi w/ some friends during the dinner break. I told the table how badly Matt butchered a hand with aces. He wasn't sure what I was talking about, so I retold the story to the table. "Ok, so Matt has aces; he raises and Man shoves. Now listen to how badly Matt played this part: He insta-called!!". It became a little inside joke over the next 24 hours.

Going into the final day, I was pretty tilted by Men. Despite the fact that I've caught him cheating three times (and either called the floor or written a blog about it each time), he had no recollection of who I was. I've played with him A LOT too: more than almost anyone I've played with live. He was trying to impress me, showing me his big laydowns, etc. Oddly enough, he wasn't as huge of a douche bag to the dealers as he normally is, but I guess it's because he wasn't losing.

And to make things all the more tilting, he had sucked out on me three times already in the span of about two hours.

Here's a brief summary of Men "The Master" Nguyen for those that don't know:

A few years back he was cooking some rice in his hotel room. A fire started, and hotel workers came in to put out the fire. While there, they discovered a duffel bag full of tournament chips from around the country. For those unfamiliar with live tournaments, you never-ever-ever take your chips off the table. Turns out Men was forcing the players he staked to take chips off from their stacks to give them to him to slip into his stack when no one was looking. This is most likely how he was able to win Player of the Year multiple times.

My personal experiences with him consist of the following:

1) He's a huge douche bag. Constantly mean to dealers, especially when drunk (common) or losing (even more common). He once was so pissed at a ~65 year old gray haired dealer (a good one IMO too) that every time he folded, he would pitch his cards one by one straight into the dealers knuckles. He had surprisingly good aim and force with his throws too. This lasted for about 5 hands before the dealer yelled at him (very rightfully so, that must have hurt).

2) I wrote a blog about him cheating at commerce. Basically he and another player used a common raise + reraise play to knock others out of the pot. This is mostly fine, except after it happened, the opponent folded in a spot where it is NEVER correct to do so (he was getting ~20-1 in a draw game where both players were drawing 1 card. You are never a huge dog in that spot). Turns out the player was backed by him and was forced to softplay him.

3) At Bay 101 Men had a 5k bounty on him. This means that anyone that knocks him out gets $5,000. He became extremely shortstacked and asked the table who would give him $2,500 back if they busted him. A few players said yes, and he said he was only going to go all-in against these players. Matt Savage was called over, and as much as I love Matt Savage, I'm still completely shocked that no penalty was given. This is a ridiculous form of collusion that should result in instant-disqualification.

4) He's also a constant angle shooter. For example one time I saw him split a time pot (the rake for every 30 minutes is taken out of the time pot). Since the pot was split, they gambled to see who would pay the whole thing. "High card on the next hand pays it all" (they were playing Stud 8). Men gets an ace, other guy gets a deuce. Men refuses to pay because he claims ace is low. Ironically, the rules of Stud 8 stipulate that the low card brings it in, so the deuce brought it in. Men continued to refuse to pay. Everyone at the table agreed Men was wrong except for the Vietnamese player at the table that Men happened to be backing.

I could go on, but I want to get to the story.

So it's the final table of the Circuit Event the other day and 6 or 7 players still remain. There are 20 minutes left in the level, and Matt Graham starts saying he's not going to make it 20 minutes. He had to pee really bad. The guy next to him says, "Me too". Matt responds, "No, you don't understand. I'm REALLY in pain. I'm not gonna make it 20 minutes".

A few minutes later it folds to my button and I look down at two aces. Men moves all-in from the small blind. As Grinder folds his big blind, I say to Matt G, "Go run to the bathroom. Quickly."

He looks at me confused. "Wait... really?"

"Yes, go to the bathroom right now. You have time."

I hem and haw for a bit, ask for a chip count, count out my stack, etc. After three minutes, Matt and the other dude come back from the bathroom. I know how bad he had to piss, so I tell him, "You owe me one."

Immediately after that, I say call. Men flips up KQ, and I flip up two aces. Men looks at me annoyed, and I say something stupid like, "Was just trying to be nice to my friend. He really had to pee." This is when I get karmad out and KQx comes on the flop. Yes, Men sucks out on me for a fourth time in the same tournament. !@*&$(*!@&#*(!@&#(*!@#

Now I need to clarify what I mean by karmad out. I DO NOT mean that I received bad karma for slowrolling Men. I feel completely justified and would do it again. Rather, the bad karma came from the fact that I pussied out and did not take full credit for it. I claimed I slowrolled him to be nice to Matt. In fact the online coverage was titled, "Bonomo tries to be nice to a friend." So here I'm going to publicly get rid of the bad karma and take credit for my good deed: Yes I intentionally slowrolled Men, and would 100% do it again. I have no regrets.

Again, I just want to clarify, this is the only time in my life I have ever slow rolled someone, and definitely think that in general it's a very douchey thing to do.

Despite this suckout, I did go on to win the tournament! This involved a grueling 4 hour + heads up match against The Grinder (who was really tough to play). I'll write about that in my next blog. I really wanted to get this awesome (IMO) story out there first.

Hi all,

I am planning a move from Ireland to Amsterdam for the summer. I currently play a ton of poker both live and online here in Dublin and am hoping to find something similar in Amsterdam.

If anyone wants to play poker, hit the casino together or even train for playing poker (excercise, talking game theory, sharing tips etc) I would love to meet.

Also, Amsterdam is my favourite city in Europe for partying what with all the hot girls and great clubs. I am going to be bouncing back and forth throught the summer to Ireland but am hoping this new change of scene will help me gain focus and take my game to the next level.

I currently play $5/10 online and pretty much any tourney.

Anyway if anyone has tips / info or would like to meet up for poker or partying just hit me up. 4:20 is always a good time!

This forum is for Internet GAMBLING.

How do I use the search function?

The vast majority of things you will want to ask as a new poster have been asked many many times before.

What is flat/threaded mode and collapsed/expanded mode

Flat mode allows you to see all the posts in a thread in the order in which they were posted.

Threaded mode allows you to see a list of all the posts in a thread and shows who replied to who more clearly.

Collapsed mode lists the threads by the name of the first post only, whilst Expanded mode lists every post.

I'm new to online poker, what site should I play?

The best thing to do is to post to this forum and state what you are actually looking for in a site.
State limits, game types, willingness to wait for a better game and anything else you consider relevant.

Someone will usually reply quickly.

What is the big four?

PartyPoker, PokerStars, ParadisePoker and UltimateBet are usually called the big four.
PrimaPoker is actually also as big as UB, but is not generally regarded as such.
Expect references to the "Big Five" to start appearing to include Prima.

What other sites have a lot of players?

For as near to a complete list as you can get, you can check pokerpulse.com

Prime Time

There is no exact definition for this, but it refers to the time of night where there are many more players online.
This is typically around 6pm EST to around midnight EST.
The actual peak is typically 8pm or a few minutes later.

Safety of online play

Do the sites pay up?

In the overwhelming number of cases, the sites will pay you your money with absolutely no difficulty.
Occasionally there will be some small problem, particuarly with smaller sites, that is usually solved by faxing some ID or similar.
Also, it is not unknown for a site to go bust, the smaller and newer the site, the larger the risk.

If this should occur, the only recourse you have would be the legal system of the country where the site is based.

If a site keeps your money, it is a good bet that you have lost your money.

Always do a little research before playing, if unsure, the general rule is "The bigger the room, the safer your money"

Is there regulation?

Many of the sites are regulated and licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.

They are far from ideal regulators.

What is to stop two people from playing in the same room or communicating via MSN messenger to collude?

Nothing can stop them from doing this.

However many sites have built in security features that are supposed to detect it.
They are able to tell how often you play against other people at your table, how often you fold hands they consider big (I believe at paradise folding AQ or bigger preflop raises flags to be looked at. This does not mean you will get suspended for folding such hands, it just means that they will look for patterns when you do it)

If in doubt however, the best thing to do is to email customer support with the problem hands, the better sites can check how often those two players play on the same table, and can review all their hands played.

Refunds have been known to come of this even without emailing to ask, but if you don't email, your chances of them finding it are reduced.
There are only so many things that even the best of sites can check out without being pointed in the right direction.

The only way to tell for sure is to log them all.

This is a matter of great debate on this forum, often the threads with huge numbers of replies are discussing precisely this.

There are slightly less Aces than other cards, because when a pot gets to the river, there are slightly more aces in people's hands.

Do people using playing aids such as bots or math packages lower my win rate?

In general people who need a program to count their outs for them are poor players.

Bots are still a long way from being good poker players, and although it is a worry that they can play 24/7 and possibly have a small edge of the fish, any program playing 24/7 will be spotted very quickly by most sites.

Which sites spot such things the most quickly?

Stars and Paradise have the best behind the scenes detection software, without a doubt.

Affiliates of sites

What is an affiliate?

An affiliate is someone who gets payment for introducing you to a poker site.
Sometimes this payment is in the form of a one-off sum, but often it is a direct percentage of the rake paid by the player the introduce.
Some people will make all manner of nice offers to get you to sign up as their player (For you to have them as your affiliate is the common phrasing of this).
Many players get a deal with the affiliate to get their rake back (Often worded as simply "rakeback").
Many of these deals are against the Terms and Conditions of the site where the player is playing.
All discussion by affiliates, or players looking for an affiliate on this board is now banned.

The reasons for this are twofold.

Firstly this is a commercial site that sells advertising space. Advertising yourself as an affiliate for free detracts from the income of 2+2.
Secondly, there are hundreds of people on this forum who are affiliates, if they all engaged in a public bidding war the place would just be full of spam and useless as an informative forum.

What should I do if I see somebody post details of their affiliate offer(s) on the forum (or spamming the board in general)?

Firstly, do not reply to the post, as this only bumps the post to the top of the forum, which is exactly what the affiliate (spammer) wants.

Secondly, notify the moderator immediately. This can be done by clicking the right hand button of the three at the bottom of the post in question.
Prompt notification assists the moderator in quickly removing the offending thread. Also, never assume somebody else has notified the moderator - double checking does no harm what so ever.

Many players here chase bonus money, and go from site to site getting as much of this money as they can.
A couple of common questions.

When I deposit money for a deposit bonus, can I then withdraw money from before I clear the bonus?

Yes you can on Stars, Paradise, Party (and skins), UB, Absolute, Crypto skins, PokerRoom.

On Stars you may not withdraw money BEFORE depositing for the bonus during the bonus period.

Why do people play more than one table at once?

In simple terms, the more hands a winning player can play, the more he will win.
Some people find it difficult at first to concentrate on more than one table at once and beginners should worry about getting their game up to a high standard rather than trying to beat several games at once.

Playing more tables will often lower your win rate per table and it is wise for the individual player to keep records to make sure they are winning more per hour (not per table) when they move to more tables.

Playing more hands at the same win rate will not alter your bankroll requirements, however a lower win rate will expose you to larger potential downsides.

Pokertracker is a commercial product that keeps track of all the hands you have played and provides detailed statistics based on that data.

Is it worth the money?

You should do a search to answer this question to get the right answer that ties in with your own needs.

How do I set up my computer to play more than one game without overlapping?

You need to increase the screen resolution. To do this on a PC:

1) Right (Alternate) click on the desktop and select properties.
2) Select the settings tab.
3) Drag the indicator below the words “Screen resolution” to the right.
4) Hit OK, then, Yes to the “Do you want to keep this resolution” question dialog.

To play four non overlapping games at once you need to set the screen resolution to 1600x1200, (Some sites have mini screens which will allow you to play four non overlapping games on smaller screens).

Both graphic cards and monitors have a fixed set of screen resolutions that they can support. The values in the “Display Properties/Screen resolution” display is the intersection of these two sets. So for instance if 1600x1200 is not an available option you will need either a new monitor or graphics card.

How do I get to use more than one monitor on my PC?

Its graphic cards determine the number of monitors that a PC can support. Most graphic cards will support only one monitor, however you can get graphic cards that support two or even four monitors.

To use two monitors you can either add a new extra graphic card, or exchange your existing card, for a dual monitor card.

You need to be aware that different graphic cards can fit inside your computer in different ways. For example the AGP, PCI or PCI express slot. It is easy to get buy a graphic card that wont fit in your computer, so if unsure seek professional advice.

It is also possible for two graphic cards to be incompatible. Big clue would be the instructions in one of them saying please remove or disable all other graphic cards.

My eyes hurt from playing so much poker, what can I do to ease eyestrain?

Turn the refresh rate on your monitor to the highest setting it will support (alternate click desktop, select properties, go to settings tab, click advanced button, click monitor tab and there will be a drop down box under refresh frequency where you should select the highest possible rate).

WARNING: Be sure that you are selecting a refresh rate that is supported by your monitor, selecting one that is too high can PERMANENTLY DAMANGE YOUR MONITOR.

Other ways to help with eyestrain:
- Frequently look away from your monitor and focus on a distant object
- Make sure there is plenty of ambient lighting in your room and make sure the lighting is properly positioned to avoid glare on your screen.

I really dislike the party background is there any way to change it?

Yes, the images for party poker are stored on your hard drive in the PARTYPOKER/IMAGES directory. You can edit the images in that folder and as long as they are saved using the same file name they will work. Make sure you make backup copies of your files because updates to the software will occasionally overwrite your images.

My wrist hurts, what can I change?

There are constant improvements in the type of mouse you can use.
A quick search will find the latest threads on this.

Be sure you are not resting your arm over the edge of a table or something similar.

Many sites have more than one entrance into the same poker room.
For example Party Poker is the largest site on the net at the time of writing, but Empire Poker leads to the same games.

The rake is the money that a poker site takes out of each pot so they can make a profit.
You should always check the website of the site you are intending to play to find out what rake you will be paying.
